I am so excited to share our daughter’s toddler girl room makeover with you! We’ve taken our time doing this makeover and it’s been so much less stressful than other rooms we’ve redone.

Chloe’s Bedroom Makeover
BEFORE
Before we started this room makeover, our kids shared a room so the third bedroom had become a bit of a storage unit…
Here’s a peek at what it looked like before:

Of course, our first step was getting everything OUT of this room so we could start decorating our toddler girl room. As you can see, this room is quite small (only 10′ x 9′) so we had to be creative with the space. Our toddler girl bedroom ideas are perfect for small rooms too!
DESIGN
Here is what our initial mood board for her room looked like:
We stayed true to most of these concepts, with the only change being the white storage units and the color of the wall behind the pink storage bench settee.

Welcome to our daughter’s new toddler girl bedroom!
As you enter the room, you’re greeted by her bed under the window, the dresser, tunnel and barn door to the left and a mirror and reading nook to the right.
We chose to center her bed under the window so that it was the main focal point in the room.
One of the great things about a daybed is that the side rails enable you to center it on a wall without it feeling awkward!
Not only did it look best there, but it gave us the most functional use of the walls in the room too.
With such a small room, placing your bed in a corner can cause it to take up most of two walls which can make using the rest of the room very tricky!
By putting the bed under the window it only took up one wall’s worth of space. 🙂

The daybed actually came from my Mom (we traded her for the white IKEA daybed you see in the “before” picture above) and we modified it a bit to make the frame more simple.
The original frame had much taller posts on the back and long, swoopy bars between the front and back posts.
Chris simply cut the posts down and then filled the holes with spray foam and JB Weld, then sanded them flat and spray painted them black.
One of the great things about this bed is the fact that it came with a trundle!
We don’t currently have a designated guest room, so when friends or family do stay with us, this room will still be a great option for multiple guests.
The barn door and tunnel are one of my favorite features of her room!
Since my kids have rooms that butt-up to each other, we thought it would be fun to give them a “secret passageway” between them.
Chris built this tunnel by cutting away the sheet rock, rewiring the electrical up and over it, and then installing trim around it.
The barn door was a kit from Stikwood (sponsor) and you can read more about how we built this door out of reclaimed wood in under an hour here.
Across from the bed, between the door and the tunnel, sits her dresser.
This dresser was thrifted off of Craigslist and we simply gave it a fresh coat of paint and new feet. A basic makeover with big impact!
I topped it with her piggy bank and a tray filled with books and a candle for some style.
Most of our books are kept either in the reading nook (see below) or my son’s bookshelves but this is another great “drop spot” for them.
The butterfly print is the only wall art in the entire room.
I prefer decorating a toddler girl bedroom with the least amount of items hanging on the walls so they are more comfortable playing and not worried about knocking things off the wall.
The next space we transformed was her closet!
We knew she didn’t have enough clothes (or toys, even) to fill the closet with storage, so rather than waste the space, we took the doors off and made it a fabulous reading nook!

This nook is probably my favorite spot in the whole room…
The tulle canopy and the fancy bench (that’s just her size!) has such a playful feel to it. I’m sure she feels like a princess when she lays down in there and pulls the canopy all the way around her. 😉
We had initially planned to paint the wall behind the nook just solid black, but when we were offered a partnership with Stencil Revolution (sponsor) we knew that was the perfect spot to try out their stencils!
Chloe chose their buffalo check stencil and I didn’t argue – it’s one of my favorite designs!
To make the painting a bit easier, we chose to paint pink stripes up the sides to frame in the stenciled section rather than try and stencil all the way to the edges.
I like that the vertical lines combined with the canopy make the space appear much taller than it really is.
I made the canopy out of left over tulle from my sister-in-law’s wedding decorations and a wooden embroidery hoop from Goodwill.

It sure is a fun place to hang out!
The kids are regularly playing in the nook, going between their rooms through the tunnel and we read our bedtime stories on her daybed most nights.

We’ll start with them in a basic list form:
- Use a daybed with a trundle.
- Hang a bed skirt.
- Add a playful rug.
- Install a “secret tunnel” to an adjoining room.
- Turn the closet into a reading nook.
- Hang a barn door.
- Add a youth-sized bench or chair.
- Hang a tulle canopy.
- Paint an accent wall with a stencil.
- Put minimal artwork on the walls.
- Get a small-scale dresser.

Why use these affordable toddler girl bedroom ideas?
A daybed with a trundle will help you maximize both the wall space in your small room and the guest accommodations in your home.
A bed skirt hides whatever is under the bed (in this case a trundle but could be storage too) and the ruffles add softness to the space.
A playful rug adds some visual interest and makes the floor more comfortable to play on.
A secret tunnel is just plain fun. What kid wouldn’t like to be able to “sneak” into a different room? 😉
A reading nook (especially made out of an unused closet) adds more room to relax and play in the toddler’s room. It also gives them a place to sit and hang out that isn’t their bed.
A barn door is a fun way to close off an opening and give them a “special” element in their room.
A youth-sized bench or chair gives them furniture to sit in that’s built for their size. They feel “big” when they have furniture their size!
A tulle canopy adds a whimsical element to the space and makes your toddler feel like “royalty.”
An accent wall creates some visual interest and depth to the room. When done in the closet reading nook it deepens the nook visually and creates more of a “designated” space.
Minimal artwork on the walls leads to less stress and worry over things getting broken when your toddler is playing in their room. Balls can be thrown, blankets can be tossed around, etc.
A small-scale dresser makes your toddler’s clothes accessible to them and takes up the least amount of space in your small room.
Floor to ceiling curtains make the room’s ceilings feel taller and add a softness to the room.
A dimmable floor lamp can be used instead of a nightlight and adds some style to the space.
